Social networking sites are all over the internet today, helping people to find people from high school and college, old co-workers from companies they used to work for, and of course local singles with like interests. Not so common, however, is the website that caters to the counter-cultural, eccentric and minority population, or their special interests when it comes to preparing for a high school reunion or other social occasion.

Most people looking to reconnect with fellow high school alumni are looking for the same thing everyone else is, friendship, opportunities to reminisce about old times and catch up on recent events in their old friends’ lives. Some people even look to old high school flames for a chance to rekindle something special, but most websites assume that all the single girls will be looking for single men.

For instance, their people search functions for singles may automatically pull up people from opposite genders. Fortunately, there are some social sites that understand that some of their members have different needs, and work to help them as well as they do their more typical members.

The same issue may come up when people search for college alumni. Some social networking sites might assume that a girl is looking for other girls that might have shared a dorm room with her in college. It is rare to find the people search website that also lists events to go to and places to visit in the town a person searches in. Thankfully, some websites make the search for such things easier.

For instance, someone who moved away from their hometown after they graduated, and is looking for things to do while in town for a college or high school reunion, would find such a website useful. These sites may even feature news and announcements local to that town, and come complete with listings for shops that may cater to the visitors’ desires. For example, some have links to flower delivery companies, or local restaurants, or places to buy special gifts.

Ideally, a social networking site that helps to find people in an individual’s past would serve as both a networking site and as a useful site for helping to find events and resources for those in a particular city or state. In other words, it would function as both a people finder and an event organizer, helping to bring people together and to give ideas for what to do and where to meet up. This would optimize the opportunity to meet up, reminisce on old times, and for the hopeful singles, maybe even rekindle old feelings.
